Sun, 28 Jan 2007 I haven't made much progress on the Shoptask project the last few weeks. Like most of the EMC developers I've been working on the version 2.1 release, Chris built and uploaded the packages just before midnight UTC today, topping off a weekend of hard work by everybody involved. It really feels good to be part of such a project. With 2.1.0 done, I hope to start making progress on the Shoptask project again. I did get a little work done over the last couple of weeks, mostly on the parts gathering front. The stepper motors are here, as are the Mesa 5i20 boards. I made up long ribbon cables for the board that is going to be in my development box, long enough to reach out into the middle of my workbench. I also have cable and what appear to be some nice but inexpensive connectors for the steppers, and I scrounged a pair of contactors to use to control the lathe and mill spindle motors. I picked up a nice 700VA UPS for $5 from HGR Surplus, and when I shut down computer to install the UPS I also installed the 5i20 board and cables. It will be a while yet before I start any serious 5i20 development work, but I don't like to shut that computer down. In addition to being my development box, it hosts this site and the EMC compile farm. (posted: 28 Jan 2007 23:40) (permalink) |
